When Gene & Julia Moffitt founded Gold Cross Ambulance in 1968, they didn’t know that 50 years later the company would be where it is today, the longest-running and largest private ambulance service in Utah.

In the beginning, Gene Moffitt and three other employees responded to calls in two Cadillac ambulances equipped with first-aid kits, resuscitation devices and stretchers, while his wife Julia oversaw dispatch operations while caring for their young children.

Today, Gold Cross Ambulance provides basic life support, paramedic, critical care, neonatal, bariatric, and 911 services in Salt Lake County and the counties of Utah, Juab, Uintah, Iron and Washington.

Gold Cross Ambulance celebrated its 50thanniversary with an open house attended by field care providers, support team members, vendors and friends. One of the original Cadillac ambulances used by Gold Cross was refurbished to resemble the likeness when first deployed, and a new custom Horton 50th anniversary edition ambulance premiered to commemorate the landmark event.
